On Page-Off Page SEO Most Important & Complex Parts

0

We all know that proper search engine optimization (SEO), on-page or off-page, is very important to the amount of organic traffic to a website. SEO is not the only option to obtain targeted and quality traffic to your website or Blogs. Strategies such as advertising (online or offline), email marketing...etc, can also bring traffic to your website. In fact, I believe it is better to have multiple strategies executed at the same time for traffic generation.

Here  I will share with you what I do when I perform on-page SEO for a website.

Keyword-Targeted Domain Name

Keywords within a domain name play a huge part in your search engine rankings. For example, it was extremely easy to rank #1 on Google for "Business Minder" for the domain BusinessMinder.Net
If you are thinking about creating a website for your business, try to come up with keyword-targeted domain names. It doesn't necessarily have to be a dotcom domain. It could be dotnet, dotca, dotorg, dotbiz...etc, you name it.

HTML Title Tags <Title>...</Title>

Similar to the value of your domain name, the title tags also play an extremely important role in determining your search engine rankings. For example, BusinessMinder.Net ranks very high for "internet business technology blog" on major search engines. Why? Look at the title tag that I'm using: "Internet Business and Technology Blog".
  • Make sure that your title tag includes your keyword (a greater weighting is given to key phrases at the left of the title tag)
  • A compelling call-to-action might help you get a better click-through rate in search engine results pages.
  • If you can, come up with unique and keyword-targeted titles for individual pages or sections of your website.

Use Keyword-Targeted H1 Headings at the Start of every page

Similar to the title tags, H1 tags also have some positive effects from SEO perspective. One thing to keep in mind though: do not over use H1 tags. One or two per page is enough.

Add Keyword-Targeted Content

The keyword here is "Keyword Density". You want to keep the keyword density (for the keywords that you are trying to optimize) as high as possible while still sounding natural and human.

Do not blend in the color of the keywords with the background color of the page.
*** Hint *** Try to have the keywords as close to the top of the page as possible.

Use Search Engine Friendly URLs

This is in relation to Tip #1. Try to use search engine friendly URLs for the sub pages of your website.

For example, if you are writing a page on "how to write government grant proposals", it's better to have an URL like this: (for the specific page)
than this:
You get the idea.

Use Keyword-Targeted Meta Description Tags

Some search engines such as Google display Meta Descriptions in search results. Make sure the keywords that you are targeting are in the Meta Descriptions.
  • If possible, try to create unique and keyword-targeted Meta Descriptions for each page.
  • A compelling call-to-action in meta description might help you get a better click-through rate in search engine results pages.
  • Put your keyword closer to the start of the meta description
  • Try to keep the Meta Description tags short in order to avoid having the tags being truncated in search engine results pages.

Add No-Follow to Irrelevant / Un-Important Pages

Pages such as "Privacy Policy", "Terms of Use", "Terms and Conditions" are, most of the time, irrelevant for the keywords that you are working on. Therefore, "rel=nofollow" tags should be appended to these links.

Steps to Properly On-Page Search Engine Optimize a Website
  1. Come up with a list of keywords that the website wants to rank well in search engines.
  2. Identify all the relevant sub pages of the website that will be used to add SEO value to the website.
  3. Ensure that each page has keyword-targeted title, meta description, h1 tags and content.
  4. For the irrelevant sub pages, apply rel=nofollow tags to the internal links.
  5. Continue add keyword-targeted sub pages with keyword-targeted title, meta description, and h1 tags.

On-Page SEO versus Off-Page SEO

If you talk to any SEO specialist, you will find that Off-Page SEO (link building) is what really matters. However, that doesn't mean On-Page SEO can be completely ignored!
Let's put it this way, you can pretty much think of On-Page SEO as the "Tip of the Iceberg"

I believe any business website should be properly on-page and off-page search engine optimized for the best results for organic traffic from search engines. There should not be any argument on that.
Now the question is... Is your website properly on-page search engine optimized?
